Timing and Spacing Reel

Image
Summary Explanation: Timing and spacing are the two key aspects of animation. You need to use both in order to make your animation look realistic. Timing is the speed of your animation and essentially dictates where you place your keyframes. This is the bare bones of the animation and helps to keep it structured; however, you must also utilize spacing in order to make it appear realistic. Spacing is the variation of the speed of the object moving. (One example of this would be easing in and easing out.) By using spacing, you can make an object move slower or faster and therefore help to give the movement more 'personality.' Penny Animation: Look at them soar. Look at them fly. They're the pennies, and they're back in town. This is an example of how spacing can make movement look more realistic. Ball Bounce Animation:  It is difficult indeed for us to say what happened in this house in the woods, and more unusual still when you realize the fact that the bricks...

For my scoreboard animation I decided to make one for field goals. Here it is.

Hard Surface Modeling Investigation

Image
Hard Surface Modeling is when you create an object that is smooth, but it has sharp edges. It is often used for architectural elements and generally anything man-made such as cars, robots, weapons and armor. BomByte Challenge: Sculpting an Ear

Image
Within the mysterious jungle temple lies a holy artifact only spoken of in whispers... Behold. The Clay Ear hears all. For my BomByte challenge I decided to sculpt an ear. I thought that doing a relatively simple project would be a good introduction to sculpting. At first I had a bit of trouble trying to make the sculpture look like an actual ear, but as I studied the picture and watched the video more, I gradually got the hang of what I was doing.

Character Model

Image
Here is my character model; his name is Casey! It took me a while to figure out how to get the UV mapping to work, but I eventually managed to work it out. I also had some issues with the hat but I managed to get those settled too. This was a challenging assignment but I am glad I was able to finish it and in the process learn how to make a proper character model.

Milk and Cookies (Food Modeling Project)

Image
Eye level shot: Long shot: Close up shot: Over the shoulder shot Bird's eye view shot For my project, I created a scene of cookies on a plate with milk and a straw in a cup. The first challenge I encountered was using a particle system to create the sprinkles on the cookies. However, I was eventually able to overcome this problem with some help from my table as well as some trial and error. The second challenge I encountered was the issue creating a good shape with the straw. I was able to overcome this issue by rewatching parts of the lathing/lofting tutorial. The third challenge I encountered was mapping the image texture onto the table. I was able to overcome this issue through trial and error. The fourth challenge I encountered was the issue of getting the milk to appear like milk instead of a lump in the cup. I overcame this issue by using the flattening brush, although I'm still not completely satisfied with how it looks.
