Storyboard: You Better Watch Out

The title isn't a threat or anything, by the way. That's just the name of the animation.

In-Progress Critique Blog Post

1. I think that the strengths of this animation may lie in the use of color and how I use it to highlight important objects via contrast. For example, I used a cooler and darker color scheme throughout the setting in order to create a more soothing atmosphere. However, the use of red with Santa and the book on the elf's bed signified to the audience that they are important parts of the scene and help to enhance them, as well as giving the eyes resting points from all the blues and greens. I also received comments on the lighting and how it works well to make it look like the scene takes place at night. 2. I feel like I could shift the lighting around a little so the lamp is brighter; one of my classmates mistook the book on the elf's bed for a box, so having more lighting there will help to show that it is, indeed, a book. Additionally, another one of my classmates called the scene a hallway when I want it to look more like a wide room, so I feel like adding more minor objec...

Color Theory

1. The story in my animation is Santa Claus finding an elf who escaped from his miserable life as a slave in the toy workshop. After kicking out the window, Santa jumps through and chases the elf, throwing an object at him with his psychic powers before kicking him to the wall. After that, Santa uses his powers to lift the elf Darth Vader style, keeping him in a levitating chokehold before dropping him. After all, Santa knows when his elves run. He sees you when you're sleeping. He knows when you're awake. 2. I want the audience to be relaxed at first as the elf writes a letter, then startled as Santa breaks into the house. I'd like them to grip the edges of their seats as Santa launches his attacks, then brought to horror as the elf struggles. I can start by using an analogous color scheme with blues and greens in order to establish a sense of peace over the whole scene as the elf writes. However, when Santa arrives, this color scheme is disrupted by his red clothes, so...

Robot Arm Animation Critique Response

Comments I received on the animation:  I received several comments on the general atmosphere or 'feel' of the setting I created in my animation. I also received comments on the 'floaty' keyframing of the camera. Furthermore, I received comments on the repetition of shapes (circles, lines & squares) utilized in my animation. A fair amount of people remarked that the setting felt as a ship in outer space would, rather than the empty office building I was attempting to portray. There were also multiple remarks about the storyline that somewhat diverged from what I was actually trying to depict. What I feel I did best: I feel as if I did well with the color scheme; the blues and grays used in the room and on 0R10N contrasted the redness of the Ominous Floating Cubes. I also think I did a better job with the storyline as opposed to last animation. The camerawork also seemed better, though still not great. What my classmates said I did well: My classmates said...

Actions are a set series of animated movements depicting a specific activity, which can often be looped. Actions are used in animations when a character does something a repeated number of times. A good example is walking: instead of animating each and every step again and again, an animator can loop the walking action as many times as they need to.
